This week marks the release of EveKnows.com 1.0 Beta. The past three months have seen a crazy pace of development, and I believe the results speak for themselves:

Since the site interface seems to be under control, I’m focusing on building up a giant database of porn pictures and movies to search through. Its nearing 200,000 now and growing daily–my goal is to get 1,000,000 searchable galleries in the database in the next two weeks.

Development of the EveKnows.com porn search engine is progressing swiftly! Today sees the addition of sorting search results based on either date or relevancy. Like most search engines, EveKnows assigns a score for each word on a webpage based on the number of times it occurs, the word’s location on a page, and other factors. During a search, these scores are compared and the galleries with the highest score for the queries words get displayed at the top of the search results. This is knows as sorting by relevancy; theoretically, the most relevant results will be displayed first.

Sometimes, however, people are interested in recent galleries. To that end, I’ve added the ability to sort the search results with the newest galleries first. To make use of this, click the ‘Show newest galleries first’ link above the search results. If you want to get back to the previous view, click the ‘Show most relevant galleries first’ link. When sorted by date, the quality of the search results may be significantly lower (especially with broad search terms, like ‘naked teens’, which return thousands of results). The default sorting will still be based on relevancy, but the recent sort option is now available for those who are interested.

Today I updated EveKnows.com to support searching for video galleries, photo galleries, or both. This feature exists in most other porn search engines and helps bring EveKnows up to feature-parity with them. To make use of this new ability, check the desired options (either ‘Photo galleries’ or ‘Video galleries’) beneath the search box, then click ‘Ask Eve’ as usual. By default, EveKnows will search for both photo and video porn galleries.

I added a new modifier to the searching algorithm for EveKnows.com — site:
The site: modifier allows you to restrict your porn search to a particular website. For instance, searching Ariel Rebel site:myarielgalleries.com will only return Ariel Rebel galleries hosted on http://myarielgalleries.com. It’s a nifty little tool for finding similar porn once you’ve found a gallery you like.

I also fixed a bug that was preventing the src: modifier from functioning properly. The TGP search box should now be working again, so feel free to add it to your TGPs, blogs, linked lists, whatever!

EveKnows.com is an experimental search engine, currently under heavy development. It is the brain-child of a Computer Science major looking for a real-life application of the mathematics and computational theory absorbed during university, with the neat addition of providing an excuse to look at boobies much of the day. This blog is intended to be a place to discuss development. Community feedback is very much welcome, whether bug reports, feature suggestions, or questions about the search engine’s architecture. This is as much a learning experience as anything else; we’re not starting out with an enterprise-class data center, just a few machines performing dedicated indexing tasks and a shared server for publishing the results.

The main focus of EveKnows.com is gallery searching. For the time being, this is limited to picture galleries; movie galleries will be added later. The idea is to create a search engine which is always up to date with the latest promotional galleries, making it incredibly easy to find the freshest content of your favorite porn stars.

For those interested, here’s what we have thus far:

• A reverse-index engine using keyword scoring.
• Weighted parsing includes URLs and titles for added accuracy.
• The engine is currently written in Perl. Perl is a wonderful language which, following the engine’s design, allowed a prototype to be developed in 24 hours.
• The search database is currently housed on a dedicated MySQL 5 server. We’ll see how this scales as the database grows…
• A spider which searches TGPs for gallery links. When a gallery is found, it is indexed, thumb-nailed, and added to the database.

Once the prototype is working reasonably well, it will be moved to http://eveknows.com and made available for public use.
